Come on out for the second annual Big Queer Variety Show! This collaborative all-ages alcohol-free variety event is happening on Friday July 17th from 5:30 to 9:00 at Contemporary Calgary in the Heather Edwards theatre on the second floor.
This is a masked event with ramp access, closed-captioning and ASL interpreters. There will also be a FREE buffet of food from Hot Millions (Veggie samosas and gluten-free vegetarian pakoras) and Aroma Cafe (vegetarian and meat empanadas) as well as sweet treats from Gummi Boutique!
Join our Emcees, Adora Nwofor and Ebony R. Gooden for an evening of queer joy and creativity as a whole bevvy of talent crosses the stage!

We are offering pay-what-you-are-able tickets. All ticket sales will go to Sweetgrass Lodge and Black Pride YYC. Tickets will be on sale from June 17th, and available at the door the day of. Accessibility:
This is an alcohol-free all-ages event! We welcome kids and families! Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
To make this event as safe as possible to attend for as many of our 2SLGBTQIA+ community members, we ask that folks do a Covid test within 24 hours of attending and wear masks when not eating. Masks will be provided at the door, including large size masks. We will also have hand sanitizer available.
Every performance will be captioned and we will have ASL interpreters. Inside Out Theatre will also be providing relaxed performance supplies, such as ear defenders, padded seating options for the front of the theatre by the stage, and fidget and stim items.
The venue is 100% wheelchair accessible with both a lift and a ramp from the ground floor to the second floor, and a ramp into the theatre with ample spots for wheelchair users to park throughout the theatre at the end of multiple aisles. There are wheelchair accessible washrooms on the main floor and the floor of the Heather Edwards theatre. There are also multi-stall gendered washrooms on all floors as well, with step access.
Contemporary Calgary has a paid parking lot and is right by the c-train downtown.
Food will be served! Come enjoy a delicious free spread of samosas (VG), & pakoras (VG/GF) from Hot Million, empanadas from Aroma Cafe (gluten free and veggie option included), and a Candy Bar from Gummi Boutique. Food will be served from doors opening and available during intermission.
Contemporary Calgary will also be selling non-alcoholic beverages and popcorn.

This event is happening at The Sentry Box. Please note that The Sentry Box is made up of two separate business entities. To access the building, please enter through the west entrance into the Sentry Box, not The Sentry Box Cards. We’ll be on the upper mezzanine, and signs will be placed on the tables to indicate our tables.
Please be aware that this event is not wheelchair accessible due to the approximately 9 stairs into the building.
However, please remember that these events are meant to be a safe space for the Queer community. Transphobia, homophobia, and discrimination of any kind are not welcome.
