Pop up Affirming Sexual Health Clinic!

We’re partnering with our friends at PCA (Primary Care Alberta) Sexual & Reproductive Health to increase the availability of affirming reproductive health to trans and gender diverse folks. These pop-up clinics are events for the Two-Spirit, trans and gender diverse community and by registration only. The clinics are open to everyone. 

These clinics are offered at the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre (1213 4 St SW) and staffed by affirming healthcare professionals. The Skipping Stone team is also always on site to help provide support, and bring alone some snacks, games and more to help ease anxieties and add in some fun. 

The Sexual & Reproductive Health clinic will be open to the general public at the time of the clinic, so non-Skipping Stone individuals will be present. 
Available services include:

  • Pap Testing (ages 25+)
  •   IUD for reducing or stopping periods (book a week in advance)
  •   STI Testing (self-swab available)
  •   HIV & STI prevention medications
  •   STI-to-Go Kits
  •   HPV vaccination
  •   Free birth control
  •   Emergency contraception
  •   Pregnancy testing & support
  •   And more!

In this workshop we’ll be covering the fundamentals of sewing with a sewing machine, including:

  • how to thread the machine
  • the different parts and what they do (and why it’s important to know this)
  • foundational stitches and techniques you’ll need to sew everything from totebags to formal wear
  • troubleshooting strategies

AFFIRMING VOICE I (Online)

This 8 week program aims to provide you with the support, knowledge and skillset to find your affirming voice. In it, we’ll explore the different ways we generate sound; learn to access many different facets of our voice; and, be supported in experimenting with these new skills in finding a way to use our voice that fells comfortable, authentic and affirming to each individual.

This program is trans-led and run in small groups (online: max. 12 | in-person: max 8) to ensure that all participants in the program are able to also get 1-on-1 support from the instructor.

Trans Affirming Voice I
Week 1: SETTING UP A SAFER SPACE FOR YOUR VOICE PRACTISE & Intro Exercises 
Week 2: [De-Gendering] VOCAL ANATOMY 
Week 3-4: PITCH! (aka high and low) 
Week 5-6: RESONANCE (aka the Gender Dial- bright/dark/neutral) 
Week 7: VOCAL FOLD MASS (aka load- light vs. buzzy) 
Week 8: INFLECTION & VOCAL CONTOUR 
 
This is an ONLINE program 
Students are required to keep their cameras on and active listening is highly recommended FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS.

Program Description
Open Studio is a program for Two-Spirit, trans and gender diverse youth 13-17 which uses a variety of artistic mediums to explore various themes in mental health, identity, belonging and community. Each session follows a three-part structure: grounding, making, and sharing and is led by mental health professionals.

TENDER HEARTS (In Person)

Tender Hearts is for all 16 and over within the trans man or trans masculine umbrella. As well as all those looking to affirm, to explore, or are questioning a masculine gender identity. Tender Hearts focuses on growing a strong toolset around topics like self-compassion, relationships, and connection.

It is about creating space for positive, healthy expressions of masculinity.

This event will be held in the room near the entrance of the building. Look for the Skipping Stone sign!

Queer Strength Club

Welcome to Queer Strength Club, a community-centered lifting space for queer, trans, gender-diverse folks and allies of all experience levels. Whether you're new to the gym or a seasoned lifter, this is a place to move your body, build strength, and connect with others in a supportive, affirming environment. Got a routine you're working on, or just want time to move your body your way? Stop by from 7-8:30pm for open gym. Bring your own program, experiment with equipment, or test out new skills at your own pace! Pay-what-you-can, suggested $10-$20 but free if that’s what you are able.   The Every Body Stronger gym has hand weights, kettle bells, medicine balls, rowing machines, and bars and weights for all kinds of squats, presses and deadlifts. It's also a fun, affirming space, with two any-gender washrooms, free snacks, and water.
