GBMSM Rapid HIV/Syphilis and STI Testing
Wednesday and Thursday Clinic for those who identify as gay, bisexual, or queer men who have sex with men. Get tested for several STIs, with the option to take a rapid HIV and/or Syphilis test to know your status in 60 seconds. There is no cost for this program. An appointment is required.
Rapid HIV & STI Testing
Centre for Sexuality offers the following services for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM), including cis, trans and other gender diverse folks:
Testing for common sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBIs), including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis A, B, & C, and HIV
Rapid or “point of care” testing for HIV and syphilis, providing results in about one minute, so you can know your status before you leave your appointment!
Treatment for common STBBIs including chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis
Vaccinations for Hepatitis A & B (all ages) and HPV (for folks 26 and under)
Free condoms and lube
Information and referrals for other services such as HIV PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis)
We offer two STI testing clinics: One one is open to anybody 14 or older of any gender identity or sexual orientation. The other is only open to gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM).
Appointments will become available exactly one week in advance from the appointment time. For example, the appointment for Wednesday at 4:00 pm next week, will become available to book at 4:00 pm on Wednesday of this week. If the system does not show any available appointments, it means that they are either all booked, or they are not yet available for booking. We encourage clients to routinely check this page for availability, including for last-minute appointments (we do get cancellations!).
When: Wednesday and Thursdays from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Recent studies have found that over 90% of Two-Spirit, trans and gender diverse individuals stop participating in sporting, fitness and physical recreation activities after coming out due to lack of inclusive and accessibility.
Our Fun & Fitness program creates a pathway to be able to reengage with those activities and our bodies through a variety of events which are all specifically for and by the trans and gender diverse community.

Young Hearts is a group for trans women and trans feminine folks over 40.
It focuses on supporting the unique needs and perspectives of older trans feminine folks, and especially those transitioning later in life.

We'll let folks in until 7:00, so please arrive before then! _______________________________ Between Men is a social-support peer group for queer men, including cis men, trans men, transmasculine people, and anyone under the masculine identity umbrella who is gay, bi, pan, toric, queer, questioning, or are otherwise attracted to guys. Between Men is a safe, inclusive space where we can talk openly and honestly about our lived experiences and share our stories to feel heard, respected, loved, and supported. Please note that this meeting is moderated by Outlink staff/volunteers who reserve the right to remove anyone from the group who is in violation of our Safer Space Ground Rules. If you'd like to take any pictures of the room or the group, please ask facilitators and participants first. ****** Getting There: Paid and free street parking is available in the area. The nearest LRT Stations are Downtown-West Kerby (blue line) and 8th Street (red line). Nearby bus routes include the #65 and #66. Other buses are nearby in the area as well. Building Accessibility: There is a ramp leading up to the main door. Please be aware that there is a lip at the bottom of the ramp, so it’s not quite flush with the ground. There is an elevator in the building. Washrooms in The Rainbow Room are all-gender and wheelchair-accessible. Public health and the safety of our communities is very important to us! The following safety practices are put in place for our in-person programming: Wearing a mask is always welcome and encouraged. If you have any cold, flu, measles, or Covid symptoms (ex. fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, rash, etc), we ask that you please do not attend. The room can fit about 12 people comfortably. Public Health Safety Precautions: Public health and the safety of our communities is very important to us! Together, we can work towards better understanding ourselves and how our intersectionality impacts us, including our sexual orientations, sexualities, gender identities, and gender expressions. By realizing our individual strengths, we can overcome and liberate ourselves from negative belief systems that keep us from living authentically.
Between Men also offers opportunities to socialize, meet new people, make good connections, and have fun amongst supportive and safe company.
This meetup is intended as a space for peer support, casual socialization, and connection. This is not a structured therapy group, business networking event, or dating space. About the book
Growing up in post-World War II Alberta in a stable, loving home, Tom Symington didn’t feel that he was “different.” Evading early pressures of romance and sexual exploration, repressing instances of name-calling (“femmy”), and hostility from schoolmates, Tom was almost able to believe in a world that valued the rights and freedoms of all citizens.From Calgary to Sierra Leone to France, this candid, heartbreaking memoir braids the evolution of gay rights in Canada with the life journey of one individual. Following high school, as Tom entered university and became a teacher, he was forced to reconcile his sexual orientation with the prevailing social and legal environment in Alberta, Canada, and the world beyond. As decades passed, “femmy” merged with “gay,” “queer,” and “LGBTQ+ community” in a rallying movement and an enduring struggle towards pride and self-acceptance against the current of societal expectations and discriminatory legislation.Not So Normal is as much a coming-of-age odyssey and a celebration of selfhood as it is a grave reminder that there is still much work to be done in the realm of human rights, and an urgent call to action to recentre love in our increasingly diverse and divisive world.
About the Authors
Tom Symington grew up, attended university, and became a secondary school teacher in Alberta (Wild Rose Country). He went on to travel, volunteer, work, and study in Sierra Leone, Europe, the United States, and Québec, earning a Diplome d'études professionnelles (DEP) en céramique and becoming a translator after completing a Graduate Diploma in Translation at McGill University.Not So Normal is available from Friesen Press (books.friesenpress.com) and all bookstores.
Kevin Allen is a fourth-generation Calgarian who has been documenting and profiling queer people and events for 30+ years. Kevin started the Calgary Gay History Project in 2012 to uncover and preserve stories from Calgary’s 2SLGBTQ+ past (www.calgarygayhistory.ca). The Project has achieved national recognition and led to the award-winning documentary film: Gross Indecency: The Everett Klippert Story; and the best-selling book Our Past Matters: Stories of Gay Calgary. Additionally, Kevin works as a senior election administrator for both Elections Canada and the City of Fernie.
