This is a two-part session, which has filled up, but you can join the waitlist: https://thecentreedge.ca/events/intro-to-upcycling-a-2-part-series/
Upcycling is more than cutting up old clothes and hoping for the best. It’s about learning how garments are built, how fabric behaves, what can realistically be changed, and how to make thoughtful choices that lead to stronger, cleaner, more wearable results.
In this two-session course, we’ll move through the core foundations of upcycling: garment literacy, repair literacy, alterations, fit, form, focal point, seam options, common upcycling issues, and ways to create a more professional-looking finish. We’ll also look at how to repurpose garments that are too damaged to wear, how to thrift with an upcycler’s eye, and how to decide what a garment is asking to become.
This course is designed for people who want to build confidence altering, repairing, reworking, and reimagining clothing. You don’t need to come in with a perfect plan. You’ll learn a practical framework for assessing garments, making design decisions, and choosing techniques that match both the fabric and your current skill level.
By the end, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how to approach upcycling projects with less overwhelm, fewer “well, that went sideways” moments, and more confidence in your ability to turn existing materials into something with new life.

🌈 BIPOC queer adults (18+)
Does this resonate?
• Navigating the intersections of being both BIPOC and queer?
• Feeling the emotional impacts of being in spaces that may not fully embrace all parts of who you are?
• Feeling pulled between culture, race, family, community, and identity?
• Wondering where you can show up fully as yourself?
• Longing for spaces where your whole self is welcomed and represented?
• Looking for connection with people who share similar lived experiences?
If so, this workshop was created with you in mind.
Pride is more than a celebration.
Pride can bring joy, connection, and affirmation.
It can also bring up questions about identity, belonging, visibility, family, culture, and community.
Join us for an affirming virtual Zoom workshop created specifically for BIPOC queer adults (18+) across Canada as we explore the complexities, strengths, and realities of living at the intersection of multiple identities.
Through guided reflection, meaningful discussion, and opportunities for connection, the workshop aims to support participants to:
• Explore the complexities of holding both BIPOC and queer identities
• Reflect on experiences of belonging, visibility, and authenticity
• Explore practices that support emotional wellness and self-compassion
• Connect with others who share similar lived experiences
• Foster a greater sense of empowerment and community
